SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics)

Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is an XML specification and file format for describing two-dimensional vector graphics, both static and dynamic (interactive or animated). The SVG specification is an open standard that has been under development by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) since 1999. SVG images and their behaviors are defined in XML text files. This means that they can be searched, indexed, scripted and, if required, compressed. SVG files can be edited with any text editor, but specialist SVG development environments are also available. These offer a wide range of specialized and general-purpose features.

Using SVG in the LayoutEditor

The SVG file format don't know layers. It just had a color for its elements. The LayoutEditor will add the element on the enabled layer which color is the closest to the color of the element and save it with the current setup layer color. Also the SVG file format has no physical scale. So the current user units are used to scale the graphic. The intended use for this file format is NOT to store productive data. But it may be useful to add logos to a design or for preparing a presentation. SVG file format is XML text files with multiply lines. For the end of line character it allows multiply options, which can always be read by the LayoutEditor. However some other programs may have trouble with one of the allowed options. Therefore the end of line character for exported SVG files can be set up.
