Resistor Extraction
Icon:
Dock: Extraction
Description
Using this feature the resistance of a single arbitrary shape can be extracted. Four steps are required to do this:
Choose a polygon
Choose an input edge/port
Choose an output edge/port
- Enter material data in the dock windows
The resulting resistance will be displayed. Also the electrical field density is shown.
Algorithm
The finite differences method is used to calculate electrical resistance. It is a two-dimensional calculation process. As three-dimensional parameter only the layer thickness from the LayerManager is used to calculate the square resistance from the specific resistance of the material. Any other 3-D geometry is not considered in the calculation. Any calculated resistances are for direct current only. No skin effects or other factors are considered.
